List Of Low Cholesterol Foods

With the recent fascination with fast foods, cholesterol is becoming a problem for many people. This is because, in our modern lifestyle we consume more and more processed and high fat foods that are particularly rich in saturated fats. This includes foods like whole milk dairy produce, fatty meats, micro meals, some poultry and egg yolks.

There are more and more people resorting to a reliance on fast food chain stores and heavily processed foods as a result of a modern lifestyle that is to hectic to accommodate good old home cooking. If this sounds like you and your lifestyle then perhaps its time to go on a diet of low cholesterol foods.

For a diet that is low in cholesterol you will need to select only foods that are low in saturated fats, this will help to lower your cholesterol levels and help to protect you from developing heart disease.

What follows is a list of low cholesterol foods that you should be looking to include in your diet if you need to lower your cholesterol level.

Fat free dairy products
Lean Meats
Fish
Shellfish
Skinless poultry
Whole grain based foods
Fresh fruits
Fresh Vegetables

You should also try to cook any foods that need frying in olive oil and try to include olive oil in general into your diet. Fresh fruits and green vegetables need to be included because they contain many vitamins and minerals that are very good for your body and help to lower cholesterol. Try to include foods that contain plant sterols and plant stanols such as the many cholesterol reducing margarines, spreads and salad dressings that are appearing on the market.

Foods that are high in cholesterol need to be seriously limited and any foods that contain large amounts of saturated fats need to be seriously limited if not removed altogether from your diet. It is also important to avoid organ meats like liver kidney etc. Egg yolks, full fat dairy products, processed meats with a high fat content and fried foods, particularly if deep fried need to be limited as much as possible if not eliminated totally from your diet.

By limiting the intake of these types of foods you can significantly reduce the levels of LDL or bad cholesterol in your bloodstream which in turn will reduce your chances of developing heart disease in later life and as such, help to prevent heart attacks in later life. A simple to follow list of low cholesterol foods is a help to you but you must take action. Your health is your own responsibility with regards to high cholesterol induced illnesses.

There is no reason you can not enjoy the foods that you always have but please try to enjoy the fatty foods in moderation!
