High Cholesterol Meals

For those of you who have been told that your cholesterol is a touch on the high side you will want to build a list of high cholesterol foods so you know what foods you need to avoid. Doing this will help keep such foods in your mind so you do not forget when you are out and about.

To compose your list of high cholesterol foods to avoid the best way to start off is to get a pen and write down all the foods that you have been advised to cut down on or eliminate from your diet by your doctor. When you read the list back to yourself chances are that you will find a fair few of the foods listed are those that you consume on a regular basis. It is helpful to prioritize your list into three categories with the first category being your favourite foods that you have been told to cut down on.

For example my first category would look like this:
Beef burgers
Spaghetti bolognaise
Meatballs
Meat loaf
etc.

For the second category include foods that you only have a few times a week and can do without if you really have to. A good example is if you eat a few candy bars a week (not a good idea if you have high cholesterol) then these need to go into the second category.

In my third category I list the items that I rarely eat that the doctor has advised me to cut down on, sure I may hardly ever eat things like liver, kidneys etc but these things still need to be on my list of high cholesterol foods just in case I forget that I'm not supposed to have them.

By writing a list in this way you can easily remind yourself that a certain food is not exactly in your best interests to eat. Now this may come across as a rather huge self sacrifice to many of you, so why not write a low cholesterol alternative next to the foods you can not have?

OK so it may not be a good idea to have a triple decker cheese and bacon burger but instead you could have something equally as tasty but not so bad for you like lets say, a chicken breast in a wheat bread bun with lettuce and tomato, supplemented with a large jacket potato with a dollop of low fat soured cream. Doing this will make the necessary change in your eating habits a touch more bearable.

It is much better to create a personalized list of high cholesterol foods as it will have more meaning to your personally unlike a generic list you can find in a book or on the internet and this will ultimately help you in your goal.
